Oooohhhh, if you’re an Edmontonian for sure you will be hearing A LOT about the Western Canadian Music Awards this week, as Edmonton is the host city for this conference, festival, and award ceremony and celebration of Western Canada’s fine musical talent this year. This will be a jam-packed weekend at AV headquarters, and we urge you to show Stephen Harper there are some Canadians out there who do support the arts—not just at fancy galas, but the ones working hard in the trenches and contributing to your quality of life. In fact, we encourage you to support ALL 140 acts playing this weekend! 😉
BUT most biased-ly we of course urge you to support the lovely Ann Vriend at her showcase on Saturday, October 18, 2008 where she will be joined by a stellar upright bassist, James Forrest, award winning artist T. Nile on background vocals, and her producer Douglas Romanow (on various things yet to be determined, depending on what Air Canada will let him bring on board).
The details are:
Date: October 18, 2008 NOTE VENUE CHANGE: The Hydeaway All Ages Art Space Address: 10209 100 Ave, Edmonton, AB, CAN Description: acoustic 4 piece band, $10 or free with WCMA wristband (which costs $20 for the weekend), 11 pm sharp, one 45 min set
ONTARIO TOUR WITH T. NILE
After the WMCA’s, AV and T. Nile then trek to the centre of the universe (Toronto) for a show; for Ann a return to the Toronto Waldorf School, where she performed last spring and now has a devout audience. This will be her ONLY Toronto show until April 2009 at the earliest, so Torontonians, please, despite us saying sometimes Western Canadians feel you think you’re the centre of the universe—we don’t really. It just sort of came out like that…please come!
Then Londoners get their chance to hear AV (and T. Nile) once again at the London Music Club, where another growing fan base is a-brewin’. Get your tickets fast; AV and T. Nile both have a lot of fans in London; the show is expected to sell out.
AV and T. Nile then heads to Ottawa (definitely not the centre of the universe, but indeed our nation’s capital) for not one but TWO afternoon shows, at the esteemed Rainbow Bistro. Bring your pals! In fact, bring Stephen Harper himself! It will just be an ordinary show of a poignant, non evening gown wearing, independent singer-songwriters, and not a gala at all, so he very well might like it!
The following Wednesday AV and T. Nile trek to the lovely town of Peterborough, where hopefully this year there will not be the same amount of snow as there was the last time Ann performed there…which would be highly unlikely as the last time a record snowfall was set. But then, you never know…
Last but not least on the Ontario tour is the border town of picturesque Kingston, where promoter Richard Boon is putting on a fantastic concert for the 2 lovely ladies. Not a show to be missed!
All in all, it will be a brief whirlwind tour and we hope to see some of you out! (about and aboot, that is!)

Many of you are aware of the fact that AV has a track on her latest disk, “When We Were Spies”, entitled “Hallowe’en”—a song she penned while in Australia a few tours back. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to this track yet it is posted at Ann’s MySpace:
And of course it is FOR SALE on iTunes via CD Baby, and on disk, both via the link below:
Keep your ears tuned for some radio play of this tune this month.
Thanks for your support!!
