J.J.’s gearing up for a trip to Nashville next month and he’s written this update for his friends and fans:
I thought I’d drop you a line to let you know what I’ve been workin’ on in the last couple months.
I’m just putting the final touches on a trip to Nashville. I’ve been working with Brad Prosko (http://www.b-radstudio.com) here in Regina over the past few months putting together a pretty darn impressive schedule of live performance showcases, meetings, song-writing sessions and even an internet TV show appearance.
Some of the details are still being worked out and I still have a couple of things in the works, but I thought it would be a good time to send out an announcement along with some links to let you know what I’m up to.
“Canadian Nashville Express” (http://www.canadiannashvilleexpress.com) is a program Brad has established in order to give Canadian independent recording artists (like me) the opportunity to not only meet industry people, but to play live for them and showcase our material.
It’s one thing to go to Nashville, album in hand, to try to get known and meet people, but to be able to do so and then perform live with my band in front of label/management/promotions reps is an important step and a great opportunity.
Brad established this program together with Billy Block (http://www.billyblock.com). Billy has an extensive background in the Americana scene and has been extremely helpful in giving unknowns the opportunity to get their music in front of the Nashville machine. I will be playing on 3 shows hosted by Billy while I’m down in Nashville. (http://www.jjvoss.com/pages/Tourdates.htm)
Two of the Billy Block shows will be broadcast. The first one will be a radio show at the famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Sunday, March the 1st, broadcast on 103 WKDF. I’ll be talking with Billy, and performing a couple tunes off my debut CD, Hillbilly Storybook which you will be able to listen to LIVE at http://www.103wkdf.com. I’ll be on the 2nd segment of the show, which will air between 7pm and 8 pm local time.
The 2nd show will be a full band, loud n’ proud club show at 12th and Porter. This show will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube. It will be available for everyone to watch by Friday, March 6th, I’m told. You can catch it at http://www.billyblock.com.
I’m really happy to have my band coming down to do these shows with me. Ken Burton (http://www.kenburtonguitar.com), Neil Fenske and Ben Bradley are helping me out with this trip. They are all volunteering their time and have worked very hard in rehearsals so that we can go down there and kick ass!! Big thank you to Ben, Neil, and Ken for having my back.
A trip like this is pretty costly and I have to say a heart-felt thank you to some generous friends who have contributed financially in order to help me make this trip happen.
John and Hazel Voss (my folks), Pat, Mathew, Rich and Laura McFarlane, Glen and Barb Macza along with the whole crew at Future Communications, Carla Voss, Glen Wallace, Paul Belter of Colliers Realty in Edmonton, Greg and Donna Voss, The Lorne Schlosser family and everyone at L&G crushing, Sask Music and finally Clayton Miller and Kevin Morrow of M and M motor products in Regina.
Your help means the world to me and won’t be forgotten.
I have a crew at home here in Regina that are helping me keep my business running while I’m gone. Thanks to Brett Schinbein, Danny Latham, Lawrence Sakundiak, Scott Burlock and Mitch Zaleschuk for diggin’ in for me.
For a full list of my upcoming shows and detailed updates on my trip, check my website regularily. I’ve also recently updated Myspace and Facebook pages and will do my best to keep them all in in sync and recent.
The week after I return, (March 24th-28th) I’ll be playing the Whistle Stop Coffee Shop at Casino Regina. Check out my website under tour dates for the specifics. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!
Wish me luck,
