Host Suzanne Lieurance of Book Bites for Kids talks with author Camille Blue Amy about her adorable picture book featuring a sweet little mouse who is an only child, entitled ‘Marshall and his green high-tops’ as well as Camille’s upcoming children’s books and other interesting things too, on Blog Talk Radio!
Photo Description: Mickey and Molly at her cottage in Portland, Ontario
I saw Camille (a.k.a. Mickey) yesterday and she’s been busy working on her second children’s book, FISH FACES, and as well, is creating a gift in stained glass for friends who recently celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary. She’s multi-talented, I’m telling you! She works in stained glass and paints in oils and watercolours as well! We went shopping together to The Glass House in Kingston for supplies and got caught up.
She told me that the readings this past week at St. Ann’s Separate School in Cornwall went very well and she read to seven classes and sold 15 books. The kids were really sweet and asked some great questions. She was pooped afterwards!
Camille has finally secured at distributor for Marshall and His Green High-tops and it will hopefully be available very soon through BarnesandNoble.com, as well as other fine booksellers. In the meantime, you can still purchase copies through her official website at www.marshallmouse.com or at the stores listed there, on Amazon.com, and if you live in Canada, you can get a copy directly from me – Christine Bode – as I have a supply. If you’re interested, simply email me with your request at email@example.com.
Camille will be reading at the Prince of Wales Public School, 201 Pearl Street West in Brockville, Ontario at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25th, 2009.
She will be leaving Ontario the weekend of October 3rd to head back to Punta Gorda, Florida, as it’s getting pretty chilly at the cottage on Big Sheep Island. Jack (her husband) and Mickey got some renovations completed this summer at the cottage, entertained lots of guests and endured a lot of rainy weather, so they’re ready to enjoy some warm temps again as we didn’t have much heat this summer in Ontario.
We both wish you all a wonderful autumn!
With gratitude and joy,
Christine and Camille
Writing book reviews is a natural extension of the promotional work I do for authors and musicians through Scully Love Promo. As I work for a first time children’s author, and I have a seven year old niece and nephew (twins: Erika & Ethan) who I enjoy reading to, I have developed an interest in children’s books and have been reviewing quite a few of them.
Camille Blue Amy, author of the delightful and beautifully illustrated (by the very talented Lorena Pugh) children’s picture book, Marshall and His Green High-tops, would like to show her appreciation to those of you who have taken the time to leave us a comment about the book on the Marshall Mouse Facebook fan page or on our MySpace profile and/or to those who have subscribed to our blog(s), by holding a little contest. There will actually be three draws: one on Facebook, MySpace and here at Scully Love Promo Reviews and the winners will receive an autographed copy of Marshall and His Green High-tops.
All you have to do (if you haven’t already) is subscribe to either the Marshall Mouse MySpace blog where you can read reviews of Marshall and His Green High-tops, or this blog and leave us a comment telling us why you’d like to have a copy of the book. Your names will be put in a box and the winners will be drawn fair and square.
The draw will take place on Saturday, August 1st and we will contact the winners to get your mailing address so we can send you the book.
Thanks so much for your support and don’t forget to tell your friends with small children (ages 2-6) or grandchildren about Marshall Mouse!

The sight of a little brown mouse wearing green high-tops is reason alone for buying this book.
Marshall Mouse lives with his parents, Mortimer and Mabel, and uncles Grant and David in the attic of a laundry room. His favorite thing to do is peer down into the house to see what he can see. What does he see–a pair of green high-tops! Even though mice don’t wear shoes, Marshall longs for his own pair of green high-tops- after all, no other mouse would have shoes like that! Day in and day out, that’s all Marshall thinks about. “If I only had those shoes. They would make me an even better shortstop and we could win all the games.” When Marshall’s birthday rolls around, he’s delighted to find the green high-top sneakers he had wanted for so long. The next morning, Marshall slips on his new kicks and heads off to play baseball with his friends. Marshall had always been one of the best players on the team, but instead of becoming a superstar, the shoes just get in the way and all Marshall does is fall flat on his face. Marshall had been so sure the shoes would make him special, but he learns one of the many lessons a mouse needs to learn: Mice don’t wear shoes!
This warm tale brought back memories of getting brand new sneakers for the school year. There was nothing better than slipping on a glistening white pair and parading around school in new kicks! It made me feel as though I could run faster, jump higher, and do anything. The underlying theme that we don’t need shoes or material things to make us special is a wonderful reminder in a day when we’re surrounded by commercials, and marketing efforts. As Marshall finds out, you must be careful what you wish for, because it might not be all it’s cracked up to be.
Lorena Pugh studied illustration at Pratt Institute in New York and has won many national awards for her animal paintings. The illustrations by Pugh are amazing and her attention to detail brings Marshall to life. The dust billows on the ball field, and the tears that well up in Marshall’s eyes glisten.

We hope that you will take the time to stop by to see our brand new video for Marshall and His Green High-tops. It’s less than 2 minutes long but will give you a sneak preview of the book and it’s adorable illustrations by Lorena Pugh. We hope you enjoy it.

I am excited to be posting Camille Blue Amy’s very first reviews for her children’s book, Marshall and His Green High-tops! Authors Helena Harper from Britain and Dawn Menge from the USA have graciously written reviews for this delightful children’s book.
Be careful what you wish for – you may get it!
How often we wish for something that we think will make our lives wonderful, but when we actually get it, that’s far from the case! This is the lesson that Marshall, the mouse, learns in this story. He’s fascinated by the human shoes he can see in the room below his attic home and is particularly entranced by a pair of green high-tops, which he thinks are all he needs to make him a better baseball player, although he is already very good at the game. He does eventually get a pair, but then learns the hard way that reality is very different to fantasy. The text is clearly laid out and easy to read and the pictures are delightful. I could have wished for a few more illustrations, though, to enhance some of the other situations described in the text. Overall, a sweet story with a useful lesson that both adults and children can benefit from. And what happens to the green high-tops in the end? Well, that’s not for me to tell!”
Helena Harper, author of “It’s a Teacher’s Life…!“
“Marshall and his Green High-tops is an enchanting tale about a young mouse who is dreaming of wearing a great pair of green sneakers.
Marshall dreamed of owning a pair of green high-tops as a present for his birthday. Marshall thinks, “If I only had those shoes, they would make me an even better shortstop and we could win the games. He could see himself as a star in the infield.”
Marshall soon realized that the high-tops did not make him a better player. But how does he explain this to his Uncle?
He writes a note explaining that he has learned many of the important lessons mice need to learn, “mice don’t wear shoes.”
His mother reminds him, “And remember Marshall – in the future be careful what you wish for. You may just get it.”
The illustrations for Marshall Mouse are bright and detailed. This is a must read for families and a good story to help solidify one of life’s great lessons, “Be careful what you wish for.”
I highly recommend this book as a welcome addition to all household libraries.”

On Saturday, October 4, 2008, my best friend’s mom and new, local children’s author Camille Blue Amy had her first book reading and signing event at Chapters in Kingston, Ontario and it went very well! She sold 24 copies of MARSHALL AND HIS GREEN HIGH-TOPS which impressed the staff at Chapters as that’s very good for an unknown self-published author. The children who she read for enjoyed the book very much and were excited about getting their own autographed copy. The staff at Chapters were extremely friendly and helpful and are really wonderful about promoting local authors.
Camille is heading back to Punta Gorda, Florida this week for the winter and will be involved in more promotional events for the book in the not too distant future.
Kingston residents can now buy the book at Chapters or Indigo. Marshall and his green high-tops makes a perfect Christmas gift for the children (ages 3-6) in your life who love books and enjoy a good bedtime story! You can get your copy now at http://www.marshallmouse.com.
