Canadiana Singer-Songwriter Harlan Wells Releases “Waiting For June” at The Cameron House Saturday, May 14th

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 25, 2016

Harlan Wells

[Toronto, ON]  Why should you be at The Cameron House in Toronto on Saturday, May 14, 2016? One of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters, Harlan Wells, is throwing a CD release party for his latest album, Waiting For June, and it’s “…the sort of album that kind of grabs you by the hand and says “come on in.”

Producer/engineer Peter Hamilton (Blue Rodeo, Leonard Cohen, Steve Earle) and Wells each share the same reverence for the seminal Canadian group, The Band. With this influence and approach in mind, they began recording at Canterbury Studio in Toronto with the intention of producing an all-organic, live off-the-floor, anti-sampling, anti-computer, album of new Harlan Wells songs. Described as Northern Americana, or Canadiana, the new record Waiting for June, is a compelling alchemy of cross-genres such as country, folk, roots rock, and blues. Ultimately, it’s a singer/songwriter’s record. However, Wells’ stellar song writing is not the only reason you should be at The Cameron House on May 14th for his CD release party. His band, which consists of Jillian Mendez (back-up vocals), Peter Hamilton (bass), Eric Morin (drums), Russell Gray (guitar), John Smith (accordion and organ), and the legendary Burke Carroll (pedal steel) are incredible musicians who have worked with some of the biggest names in Canadian music and this promises to be an evening of music that you won’t soon forget.

“Reminiscent of the great Canadian singer/songwriters like Ian Tyson and Gordon Lightfoot” ~ Billboard Magazine

“He’s good, he’s very good.” ~ Gordon Lightfoot

“In twenty years, I turned down a lot of artists seeking management, including Ron Sexsmith and Alison Krauss; I wasn’t about to let Harlan Wells slip by me.” ~ Barry Harvey (Gordon Lightfoot)

“Harlan Wells, a Troubadour in the classic sense.” ~ Lenny Stoute, CASHBOX Magazine

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Harlan Wells began playing music professionally when he was fifteen years old; by eighteen, he had left home for the road. Thousands of miles of highway, hundreds of small towns and antiquated hotel rooms, as well as, the sordid characters which inhabited them, left an indelible impression which would later influence his prolific song writing. Wells affirms that his youth was abandoned and still lies scattered along the Trans-Canada Highway. Most of his twenties were spent playing the Toronto club circuit, including the venerable El Mocambo and The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. One night, while performing in a popular Yorkville club, music legend Keith Emerson lunged at Wells as he stepped off the stage. He grabbed Wells by his shirt collar, looked him straight in the eye, and not so gently offered some wise, yet gin-soaked, advice: “write your own songs or perish.”

Wells believes, “At the end of the day, you have to be true to yourself and believe in what you do. To tell you the truth, I write these songs for myself. My music has always been my catharsis; it’s what has kept this world from driving me stark raving mad.”

Waiting for June is available now on iTunes but there’s nothing quite like getting a CD autographed by the artist on the night of his very special CD release party. Saturday, May 14th at The Cameron House, is where every roots rock fan in the Greater GTA ought to be.

Alex Runions Releases “If I Won The Lotto” to Country Radio Nationwide, January 25th

Alex Runions

[Toronto, Canada]  After spending the latter part of 2015 writing with some of North America’s most prolific writers and building a strong industry team, Regina based, Alex Runions is set to release his brand of heartland Country that will be embraced by his current fans and impossible to be ignored by new fans. Recorded at 2-time CCMA Award winning MCC Recording Studio (Calgary), his new single, “If I Won the Lotto” will release to radio on January 25th.

“If I Won the Lotto” (Alex Runions, Steve Mitchell, Nashville) is tracked at radio by Lauren Tutty of Lauren Tutty Promotions. It is a fun, loose and energetic song — something we need to help get us through the winter blues. “It’s nice to dream sometimes of what you would do if you won the lotto,” said Runions, “give some away, go on a trip, buy nice things or invest it. Whatever you think you would do, it’s still great to dream sometimes.” The lottery is something we can all relate to, especially on the heels of the record-setting Powerball draw in the United States earlier this month.

A constant in the Saskatchewan Country Music Association, and highly regarded by SaskMusic, Runions had a big 2015 and was a 3-time SCMA Nominee in the categories of Male Vocalist of the Year, Fan’s Choice Entertainer and Song of the Year – “Little Bit of Sunshine” (A. Runions/W. Mack).

In 2013, Runions won the Big Dog 92.7 FM/SaskMusic ‘Next Big Thing’ competition and received funding through the RAWLCO Radio 10K20 Grant. This opened the door for the creation and production of his current and sophomore CD, SOUTH OF THE CITY, recorded at two-time CCMA Studio of the Year, MCC Recording Studios. SOUTH OF THE CITY released Sept 25, 2015.

Performing across Saskatchewan and throughout Canada for several years, Runions has taken stages at Big Valley Jamboree, Craven Country Jamboree, Dauphin Countryfest and is a regular on the Canadian Country club circuit including Eldorado Country Rock Bar (Regina), Ralph’s (Medicine Hat) and Ranchman’s (Calgary). He’s opened for many prominent country artists including Gord Bamford, Aaron Pritchett and Rodney Atkins while also closing out performances from Dallas Smith, The Road Hammers and Neal McCoy.

His honest voice, tireless dedication and heartfelt approach have made Alex Runions a familiar voice in the Saskatchewan music scene with music industry experts betting the Queen City singer/songwriter will breakout nationally in 2016.

“If I Won the Lotto” is available on iTunes.  Alex Runions acknowledges Gee Bee Construction (Kipling, SK) for their support and contributions.

Canadian Country-Pop Duo Northern Heights Release Debut Single, “Small Town Getaway”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 1, 2015

Northern Heights Small Town Getaway
[Airdrie, Alberta]  Canadian country/pop duo Northern Heights makes warm and lively tunes that tell tales of memory, hope, heartbreak, human connections and the joys of life’s twisting path. Steered by experienced, gifted artists and songwriters Chad McMonagle (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals) and Eli Budwell (lead vocals), the group’s vivid lyrics, bright, lush instrumentation and vocal harmonies, infectious hooks and engaging live performances invite audiences to join them in celebrating each moment through well-crafted music.

Inspired by their love of contemporary country international superstars including Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban as well as favorite Canadian country acts like Dallas Smith and Brett Kissel, Northern Heights’ dynamic synergy and love for experimenting with fresh sounds shimmers in their premiere single, “Small Town Getaway.” Co-produced by Juno Award and Canadian Country Music Award (CCMA) nominee musician Chris Byrne (The Road Hammers) and lauded touring musician and producer Johnny Gasparic (Charlie Major, Jake Matthews, Ray Griff), the catchy, summery song was recorded at MCC Recording Studio in Calgary, winner of multiple CCMAs. This stunning recorded debut also features backing band of all stars: one of Canada’s most sought after live and session drummers, CCMA Drummer of the year Chad Melchert (Gord Bamford, Deric Ruttan); multi-award winning guitarist Russell Broom (Alee, Lady Antebellum, Jann Arden); CCMA Keyboard Player of the Year Bart McKay and CCMA Bass Player of the Year nominee Chris Byne.

Long-time collaborators, McMonagle and Budwell first bonded through their passion for music and their ability to draw melodies, harmonies and poetry from their everyday lives. The two met as young teenagers and though living far apart, formed a pop punk band, writing songs together via live chats on the Internet. As part of the five-piece ensemble Run Romeo Run, they played shows throughout Canada, opened for rock groups such as Loverboy and showcased at Canadian Music Week. Though the project broke up, McMonagle and Budwell recorded an EP as a pop duo and continued to keep in touch as they explored the music industry and fine-tuned their respective musical talents. A string aficionado, McMonagle began a career booking cross-Canada tours for bands and promoting shows while learning the intricacies of acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, bass, plus drums. Budwell attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City where he studied voice and musical theatre, traveling the U.S. as Conrad Birdie in a touring production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Bursting with song ideas from their many escapades, the two reunited to write together and came up with the concept for Northern Heights in January of 2015 after realizing the new tracks they were recording were tailor-made for the emotional and imaginative stories that can be expressed through country music. The pair decided to move into a house together and build a home studio in their basement, and the tunes have been flowing ever since.

McMonagle and Budwell have won multiple contests over the years for their work and have had their songs featured on the radio and played hundreds of shows together across Canada. Through Northern Heights, they are able to combine the rich sounds of the country and pop music genres with their background in punk, rock and musical theatre in order to create music that is both relatable to audiences and full of surprises.

“Small Town Getaway” is available NOW on iTunes. Northern Heights is currently on a Canadian radio tour that will end in Halifax at the 2015 Canadian Country Music Awards show in Halifax.

Introducing Laurie Brown of LJB Artist Management (Managing with Integrity)

LJB Artist Management LogoFor those of you who are following Scully Love Promo and me, Christine Bode, through social media, you’ve probably noticed that I have updated my website but I no longer have a Facebook business page. I deleted it about a year ago because at this point, as a solopreneur who works with musicians & artists, I don’t have the budget to pay to play on Facebook.

However, I have been utilizing the power of Twitter (for free) to make new connections and recently had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of a lady who I have a lot in common with. We both work in the music industry and think a lot alike in terms of how important it is to help each other out there in the social media stratosphere in order that we can all be successful at what we do.

Meet Edmonton based Laurie Brown of LJB Management (Artist Management), an artist manager with integrity, who can help both part-time and full-time musicians manage their day-to-day business operations and build their career.

With a professional designation in “Music Business – Artist Management” from Berklee College of Music, Artist Manager, Laurie Brown can bring a wealth of experience and organizational skills to your career and allow you, the artist, to do what you do best – create and play music.

MANAGEMENT SERVICES:

Craig Moritz and Laurie Brown

Country singer-songwriter Craig Moritz with his manager, Laurie Brown.

LJB Management offers services for full-time and part-time musicians whose careers have reached the point where they need assistance with day-to-day business operations. LJB Management helps artists with Career Planning, Grant Writing, Copyrights, Royalty Collection, Festival and Showcase Submissions, Branding, Corporate and Event Bookings and more.

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING and PROJECT WORK:

Not every artist needs to have a full-time manager on monthly retainer. SOME artists need assistance with SOME projects SOME of the time. LJB Management also offers management consulting services, tailored to each individual artist’s needs, at an hourly rate. Assistance with industry driven projects such as SOCAN paperwork, grant writing, showcase and festival submissions, and building a business/career plan is provided on a “per project” basis.

CORPORATE BOOKING:

LJB Management has a unique and diversified roster of talent to bring to corporate and private events. Whether planning a corporate party, family event, charitable fundraiser, sporting event, or any other gathering where entertainment is required, LJB Management will have an artist that will fit the bill.

INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS and AFFILIATIONS:

Alberta Music Industry Association (AMIA)
Association of Country Music in Alberta (ACMA)
Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA)
Western Canadian Music Association (WCMA)
Music Managers Forum (MMF)
Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta (ATAA)

Laurie keeps her rates as low as possible as she knows how tough it is for artists these days.  Her rates for consulting are $50 per hour (a normal consult is about 2 hours) and $25 per hour for projects. She will do an estimate on the project so the artist knows up front what the costs will be.  If the hours are higher she’ll honour her original estimate (as long as the project hasn’t changed drastically) and if the hours are lower, she charges the lesser rate. For grants, the fees vary depending on what type of grant you are applying for and what is required (i.e.: marketing plans add a lot of time to an application if the artist does not already have one), but Laurie will provide a quote for grant writing as well.

If you’re looking for Laurie’s expertise, don’t hesitate to contact her.

Kingston, Ontario Singer-Songwriter Jenica Rayne Releases Retro Country Rock Album, ‘Hit The Ground Running’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 10, 2014

Kingston, Ontario Singer-Songwriter Jenica Rayne Releases Retro Country Rock Album, ‘Hit The Ground Running

Hit The Ground Running by Jenica Rayne
[Kingston ON] Kingston’s own passionate singer-songwriter, storyteller and seasoned performer Jenica Rayne of Jenica and The RayneMakers and Calamity Janes will release her brand new solo, retro 70s / Country Rock album entitled Hit The Ground Running at BLUMartini Bar & Grill, 178 Ontario Street in Kingston on Sunday, October 26, 2014, 7:30 pm. Her band for the evening will feature Doug Reansbury on electric guitar/BG vocals, Alec Barken on bass, Ken Hall on keys, Duncan Holt on drums, James Wannamaker on tenor sax, Janet MacRae on trumpet, Lynne Hanson and Sandy Stubbert on BG vocals, Danielle Lennon on violin and Rayne on guitar/vocals. Tickets for the CD Release show are available at Tara Foods and Brian’s Record Option.

Hit The Ground Running includes some of Kingston’s and Vancouver’s finest musicians. Recorded during 2013/2014 in Duncan Holt’s Concept Audio Studio in Kingston, and in Vancouver at Hammond Avenue Studio with Rayne’s longtime friend and producer Simon Kendall, the album offers many thoughtful Country Pop/Rock ballads with string arrangements and piano. The title track, “Hit The Ground Running” is an Anthemic Country Rock ballad that starts out slow & builds to mid tempo with brass arrangements and an orchestral sounding chorus, while the up tempo, road tripping “Faster” is Country/Rock inspired by true life events while performing in Mexico.

Rayne wanted to weave the musical influences of her Vancouver players with the sounds of her musician friends here in Kingston. It took a year but she got the sound she was looking for. Her mature alto voice is well-worn like your favourite pair of cowboy boots and her Retro Country Rock compositions and thought-provoking lyrics will take you back to the 70s. This album will fit in perfectly with your Blue Rodeo and Patty Griffin LPs.

Jenica Rayne is a jazz trained, accomplished guitarist and storyteller Jenica Rayne at the farmdescribing soul-searching, fun-loving and heartbreaking experiences. Audiences become engaged, reflective and revitalized with her shows. She has released four previous critically acclaimed solo CDs: Hall of Memories (1999), Essential Elements (2005), Live Rayne (2007) and Love is Love (2013), as well as Calamity Janes (2013) with the Calamity Janes Band.

Rayne recently appeared on CTV Morning in Vancouver with Jessie/Genie Award winner Simon Kendall and has shared the stage with many of Canada’s finest performers. She teaches music and guitar at the Kingston School of Music and is now ranked #1 in Folk / Folk/Rock by ReverbNation in Kingston, and #67 nationally.

Hit The Ground Running is available on iTunes and CD Baby.
