Kingston, Ontario Singer-Songwriter Jenica Rayne Releases Retro Country Rock Album, ‘Hit The Ground Running

Hit The Ground Running by Jenica Rayne
[Kingston ON] Kingston’s own passionate singer-songwriter, storyteller and seasoned performer Jenica Rayne of Jenica and The RayneMakers and Calamity Janes will release her brand new solo, retro 70s / Country Rock album entitled Hit The Ground Running at BLUMartini Bar & Grill, 178 Ontario Street in Kingston on Sunday, October 26, 2014, 7:30 pm. Her band for the evening will feature Doug Reansbury on electric guitar/BG vocals, Alec Barken on bass, Ken Hall on keys, Duncan Holt on drums, James Wannamaker on tenor sax, Janet MacRae on trumpet, Lynne Hanson and Sandy Stubbert on BG vocals, Danielle Lennon on violin and Rayne on guitar/vocals. Tickets for the CD Release show are available at Tara Foods and Brian’s Record Option.

Hit The Ground Running includes some of Kingston’s and Vancouver’s finest musicians. Recorded during 2013/2014 in Duncan Holt’s Concept Audio Studio in Kingston, and in Vancouver at Hammond Avenue Studio with Rayne’s longtime friend and producer Simon Kendall, the album offers many thoughtful Country Pop/Rock ballads with string arrangements and piano. The title track, “Hit The Ground Running” is an Anthemic Country Rock ballad that starts out slow & builds to mid tempo with brass arrangements and an orchestral sounding chorus, while the up tempo, road tripping “Faster” is Country/Rock inspired by true life events while performing in Mexico.

Rayne wanted to weave the musical influences of her Vancouver players with the sounds of her musician friends here in Kingston. It took a year but she got the sound she was looking for. Her mature alto voice is well-worn like your favourite pair of cowboy boots and her Retro Country Rock compositions and thought-provoking lyrics will take you back to the 70s. This album will fit in perfectly with your Blue Rodeo and Patty Griffin LPs.

Jenica Rayne is a jazz trained, accomplished guitarist and storyteller Jenica Rayne at the farmdescribing soul-searching, fun-loving and heartbreaking experiences. Audiences become engaged, reflective and revitalized with her shows. She has released four previous critically acclaimed solo CDs: Hall of Memories (1999), Essential Elements (2005), Live Rayne (2007) and Love is Love (2013), as well as Calamity Janes (2013) with the Calamity Janes Band.

Rayne recently appeared on CTV Morning in Vancouver with Jessie/Genie Award winner Simon Kendall and has shared the stage with many of Canada’s finest performers. She teaches music and guitar at the Kingston School of Music and is now ranked #1 in Folk / Folk/Rock by ReverbNation in Kingston, and #67 nationally.

Hit The Ground Running is available on iTunes and CD Baby.

Jazz-Latin/Pop Singer-Songwriter Deborah Ledon Releases the Timeless and Elegant ‘Diving For Pearls’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Jazz-Latin/Pop Singer-Songwriter Deborah Ledon Releases the Timeless and Elegant ‘Diving For Pearls

Jazz-Latin/Pop Singer-Songwriter Deborah Ledon

“The Vancouver-based singer-songwriter is as extraordinary as her life story.”

AllAboutJazz.com

“You must only use your powers for good!”
Phillip Ditchburn, Producer, CBC Hot Air

[Vancouver, BC]  If Diana Krall, Sade and Gloria Estefan had a “thing”, Deborah Ledon would certainly be the lovechild of their ménage a trois!

A little bit jazz, a sprinkling of pop sensibility, with a touch of smooth and fiery passion to top it off; Ledon has chosen to follow her heart when it comes to music.

Over her career, she has performed throughout Canada and the United States, as her adaptable voice has garnered opportunities in rock, funk, country, blues, Big Band and jazz bands.

She has shared the stage with music legends Paul Anka and Mike Reno of Loverboy; was the grand finale at the 2010 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival; represented Canada at the Cultural Olympiad during the 2010 Winter Olympics, and performed at CBC Radio 1 for a nation-wide broadcast.

Now, 10 years after the release of her award winning debut, Spilling Inside Out, which she wrote, produced, financed and distributed, Ledon is back revealing another facet of herself with the timeless and elegant, Diving For Pearls.

Taking much loved classics (standouts include Joni Mitchell’s “Help Me” and Eden Ahbez’ “Nature Boy”) and giving them a modern approach, Deborah and her accomplished band will project images of dancing by firelight with someone you love running through your mind. Diving For Pearl’s Spanish and English songs not only touch a nerve but will have you “visualizing” jazz.  Ledon’s voice touches one deeply hinting of past obstacles, now overcome. Her vulnerability is palpable; her original tracks are melodic and with her phrasing and unique Spanish accent, delightful. And she purposefully misspelled “Te Estraño” to highlight the misstep of Love. Strung together like a priceless strand of pearls, these songs are Deborah’s conversation with you, the listener.

The album design/packaging is eye-catching with its subtle reveal of the Deborah Ledon Diving For Pearlsartist with each panel opened, allowing us to dive deeper into the singer until we reach that brilliant crimson inside Ledon’s soul.

Deborah Ledon has earned Vancouver’s “Best Of The City: 2013” for her entertaining and engaging show. Her radiant smile and sassy, sultry, confident stage persona make her one artist you won’t want to overlook.

Don’t Miss Cormac O Caoimh’s New Series of Black and White Videos on YouTube!

Cormac O Caoimh playing a Godin guitarFor Immediate Release

Cormac O Caoimh  – new series of videos  –  Godin guitar endorsee  –  recently played Indie Week Ireland

What do…

A honeyed whiskey drink
A fine cognac on a cold winter’s eve
A warm woolly jumper in muted earthy colours
A colour … a rich mahogany warm and beautiful
and a water color painting all have in common???

They have all been used in reviews to describe Cormac O Caoimh’s A New Season For Love CD.

Cormac O Caoimh is a singer-songwriter and classical guitarist from Cork, Ireland. He released A New Season for Love less than 12 months ago and it received excellent reviews. He was selected as Play Irish artist of the month and was featured on the RTE 1 Show Arena. His intimate vocals and exquisite guitar playing is attracting the attention of the music press, djs and a widening and growing audience. The last single from the CD, “Remember When We Didn’t Kiss” topped the iTunes download charts on its release.

But the man is not resting.

He is currently uploading acoustic versions of new material in a series of black and white videos on YouTube. And they have had an immediate impact. Many of the new songs depart from the chilled and calm mood of A New Season for Love and as well as having a more frenetic and energetic feel to them, explore darker themes and emotions.

For these songs, in their current format, Cormac uses a Godin mulitac nylon string guitar and a stompbox to accompany his expressive vocals.  Godin Guitars, the premier Canadian guitar company, have picked up on them and have been sharing the videos on their social media sites. As a result, Cormac is now an official endorsee of Godin Guitars.

In another Canadian connection, Cormac played the Indie Week Festival Thursday April 25th in Sweeney’s Mongrel, Ground Floor.

Indie Week Ireland is an annual music festival held over four days/nights, with 24+ international acts performing in the heart of Dublin. Showcases are judged by members of the music industry, and the top scoring act receives a paid trip (flights and accommodations for up to five band members) to headline INDIE WEEK CANADA in October. Indie Week is an alternative artist-friendly festival that is dedicated to supporting emerging artists.

A New Season For Love by Cormac O Caoimh

CD Review
Title: A New Season For Love
Artist:  Cormac O Caoimh
Label: Independent
Released: 2012
Stars:  4.5

Cormac O Caoimh is an exceptionally gifted songsmith and classical guitarist from Cork, Ireland.  A former member of The Citadels, Cormac reunited with Art O Laoire and Eoghan Regan for his latest musical offering of jazz/folk ballads, A New Season For Love, which will be officially released on April 27, 2012.  Its sound is one of simple, stripped down production with only keyboards and guitars, but perfection lies within its quietude.  I’m one of the lucky ones who’ve had a sneak preview in advance and the biggest compliment I can give this recording is that I never get tired of listening to it.

As warm and sweet as a tumbler of fine cognac on a cold winter’s eve, A New Season For Love is unabashedly romantic, soothing and sensual with its classical acoustic guitar, poetic lyrics, and dulcet, cashmere vocals.  The significant thing about O Caoimh’s voice is that it doesn’t immediately remind you of anyone else, even though it has been said that his sound would complement records by Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Damien Rice.

If someone were to ask me why I love Irish singer-songwriters so much, I’d give them this CD to listen to as my answer.  A thinking woman’s songwriter, every song in Cormac’s collection not only evokes introspection, but a primal longing for the earthly elements of love, understanding and human contact that makes it irresistible to this quixotic heart.  Charmed isn’t the word…seduced…perhaps.  Losing yourself in hushed, hypnotic tracks like “There’s Gold There Somewhere”, “100,000”, “Counting The Raindrops”, “Herculean Sky”, “Remember When We Didn’t Kiss”, and “Perfect Mistress For A King” (the last two being my favourites) will make your heart sigh with their lyrical splendor and earnest desire.

The first single, also entitled “A New Season For Love” is the most buoyant of this serene symphony, and it will be available on March 16th but you can hear it now on Cormac’s YouTube Channel.

If I was called in
To form a religion
You’d be my god
And if I made the spring
I’d create a new season
Just for us to live in

The axis of the earth
Can tilt more to the sun
And summer can wait
‘Til the season’s done
A new season
A new season for love

If you’re looking for a CD to spin when you need a blanket of tranquility or to stimulate your passion, A New Season For Love is the perfect choice.  Buy it.  Seriously…just buy it.
