Inspirational New Soul Song & Video for “Flame” by AV (Ann Vriend) with Highlands Junior High Music Class

Today, “Flame” — the song and music video that Edmonton singer-songwriter, soul songstress AV (Ann Vriend, my client of 10 years) did with the Highlands Junior High music class — was released to the world! The funding of this recording was made possible via an anonymous donor who saw these students and Ann perform at a school fundraiser on May 4, 2018. The donor was so moved and inspired by the performance of the song that he immediately asked how it could be immortalized by a studio recording of it. A week later he graciously provided the funding for this endeavor.

Less than a month after their debut performance, the students, Ann, her producer and videographer, Tino Zolfo, were in the recording studio at Velveteen Audio in Edmonton recording the song and making a music video for it. None of the students had been in a recording studio prior to this date, but have since inspired many people with their talent, hope, and enthusiasm for this venture. Ann Vriend thanks Principal Brad Burns for the initial vision for the project and everyone for listening and being part of this experience.

Juno Nomination for Maria Dunn for Traditional Roots Album of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 7, 2017

Juno Awards Traditional Roots Album of the

Today, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) together with CTV announced this year’s Juno nominees. Maria Dunn is thrilled to receive a nomination in the Traditional Roots Album of the Year category for her sixth independent recording Gathering (released April 2016). This is Maria’s second nomination for a Juno Award. In 2002, she received a nomination for her sophomore album For A Song.

The Juno Awards will be presented in Ottawa and televised by CTV on Sunday, April 2nd. To learn more about the Juno Awards, visit www.junoawards.ca.

Maria Dunn: I’m delighted and honoured to have Gathering recognized with a Juno nomination. Thank you to producer Shannon Johnson, engineer Jerry Woolsey, and a stellar group of musicians for helping me present my songs to the world. I’m also very grateful to the countless advocates for social justice, local and global, who inspired so many of these songs with their persistence, hope, courage and love.

Maria’s music has received critical acclaim over the years, both at home and abroad. Recently, she won the top Edmonton Music Prize for Gathering. Her song “Malala” (inspired by Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Malala Yousafzai) also recently won a 2016 Independent Music Award in the Social Action Song category. On February 18 (7 pm), the Maria Dunn Trio will perform an Official Showcase at the 2017 Folk Alliance International Conference, Benton’s (20th Floor) in Kansas City, MO.

Gathering highlights stories of love—not songs of romantic love, but songs of family, community, humanity and the love that connects us and fires our actions to make the world a better place. Recorded at DanLyn Studios in Sherwood Park (Alberta) with producer Shannon Johnson (Juno award winner with The McDades for 2007’s Bloom), Gathering continues to expand Maria’s musical palate with performances from Sufi singer Karim Gillani and jazz saxophonist Jeremiah McDade.

Maria Dunn Gathering

Guest musicians: Eric Breton (percussion), Karim Gillani (guest vocal), Shannon Johnson (violin), Ojas Joshi (tabla, percussion), Jeremiah McDade (saxophone, bansuri, whistles, guitar), Solon McDade (upright bass) and Asani (singers Debbie Houle, Sarah Pocklington and Terry Morrison). Further contributions on song arrangements by Solon McDade and Jeremiah McDade.

The 11 songs on Gathering range from “Malala”, a buoyant call to action inspired by Malala Yousafzai, to “When I Was Young”, a flowing old-time ballad inspired by Alberta indigenous leader Dorothy McDonald-Hyde. “How I Live” shares the quiet courage of families supporting their children with disabilities, while “When The Grandmothers Meet” celebrates women across the globe, with its exuberant vocals and joyful horn lines. The recording finishes with “Music In The Meadow”, a bluesy bow-driven wordplay on the wonder of the Rocky Mountains.

Maria Dunn Wins Edmonton Music Prize for Her Album Gathering

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 30, 2017

MARIA DUNN WINS EDMONTON MUSIC PRIZE FOR HER ALBUM GATHERING
 Maria Dunn Gathering

Maria Dunn won the top Edmonton Music Prize on Thursday evening at the Garneau Theatre for her 2016 album Gathering. The annual award is sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, and administered by Alberta Music.

“I’m very grateful and proud to be part of the supportive, inspiring, vibrant arts community that we have here in Edmonton, in no small part due to the work of the Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Music and my fellow artists. I’m humbled and honoured to be recognized for something that I love to do and and that I feel compelled to do. Thank you to my producer Shannon Johnson, engineer Jerry Woolsey, all the musicians who contributed their considerable talents to recording Gathering and all the people who inspired the songs.”

Maria’s music has received critical acclaim over the years, both at home and abroad. Her song “Malala” (inspired by the courageous young activist for education rights, Malala Yousafzai) recently won a 2016 Independent Music Award in the Social Action Song category. On February 18 (7 pm), the Maria Dunn Trio will perform an Official Showcase at the 2017 Folk Alliance International Conference, Benton’s (20th Floor) in Kansas City, MO.

Long known for her storytelling through song, Maria’s sixth recording, Gathering, highlights stories of love—not songs of romantic love, but songs of family, community, humanity and the love that connects us and fires our actions to make the world a better place. Recorded at DanLyn Studios in Sherwood Park, Gathering was produced by Shannon Johnson (Juno award winner with The McDades for 2007’s Bloom) and continues to expand Maria’s musical palate with contributions from Sufi singer Karim Gillani and jazz saxophonist Jeremiah McDade.

The recording finishes with “Music In The Meadow”, a bluesy bow-driven wordplay on the wonder of the Rocky Mountains.

A wonderful collection of new songs from one of our most important and vital songwriters…If it doesn’t bring a lump to your throat, you’re already beyond help. Essential listening, then, this Gathering. – Penguin Eggs Magazine (March 2016)

ANN VRIEND WINS COBALT PRIZE AT 2017 MAPLE BLUES AWARDS!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Aporia Records Logo imageAporia Records Logo

ANN VRIEND

WINS COBALT PRIZE

AT 2017 MAPLE BLUES AWARDS

Ann Vriend Cobalt Prize

TORONTO – TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2017 –
Big Win for Ann Vriend! Following on the heels of her powerful and well-received Blues Summit Eight showcase with Rooster Davis Group (also her backing band), Ann Vriend is more than thrilled that she has won the Toronto Blues Society’s COBALT PRIZE at last night’s Maple Blues Awards. The event took place at Toronto’s Koerner Hall where Vriend was handed the award for Contemporary Blues Composition/Songwriting for her song “All That I Can” (Aporia Records), a soulful gospel tune. For more information please visit: www.annvriend.com / www.aporia-records.com.

The Toronto Blues Society’s annual Cobalt Prize is judged on a song’s ability to creatively utilize blues traditions within the broad contemporary musical landscape. With a focus on melody, song structure, lyric etc. they also choose the song that “will refresh and enrich blues as an art form.”

The Cobalt Prize judges decided that Edmonton-based Ann Vriend’s “All That I Can” achieved just that, and selected it as first place winner among 75 entries from across Canada. Shocked and ecstatic from the win, Vriend gave a speech noting the inspiration from the African-American community, reminding the audience that they were all there because of a music that came out of great hardship, slavery, and abuse of the African-American people – and yet blues music has had the most profound influence on almost all genres of music world-wide than any other genre.

“All That I Can” is a new track from AV’s upcoming EP release via Aporia Records. It will also be released in Australia next month, alongside four other original tracks, in an EP entitled Anybody’s Different, licensed by David Hand Productions from Aporia Records. With the vocals recorded in primarily one take, the song has a live-off-the-floor feeling and falls into the category of gospel blues with its 6/8 time signature. The music is very traditional gospel, but the lyrics are secular. The Hammond organ combined with upright piano and AV’s soul vocals are reminiscent of early gospel and soul recordings in the era of Sam Cooke. However, there is also a contemporary twist in the sound too – since the drums used on this track are sampled in the style of retro hip hop, and eq’ed to give the song a rough low-fi edge, in contrast with Vriend’s smooth and sweet (though powerful) vocals.

The lyrics of the song are an earnest promise to a lover to do “all that I can” if the lover is willing to “take me just as I am” – a plea to be a true friend and companion in a world where “sometimes I think they wanna break me, just to see if they can.” Though Vriend points out: “but they mistake me as a weak and silly woman,” which could be taken as a slight jab at the misogyny that is sadly, still so prevalent in the world.

Following this very fruitful weekend in Toronto, is a showcase tonight at Aporia Record Label, 714 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, at 6:30 pm. Then Vriend will tour Australia with the Rooster Davis Group next month for a five-week tour, to support the Anybody’s Different EP followed by a European Tour from May 13-29, 2017.

Rebecca Lappa Set to Release Reckless Heart on Nov. 2

Russell Broom-Produced LP Captures Dramatic
Transformation of Young Edmonton Songstress

Rebecca Lappa

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sept. 30, 2016

Toronto ON — On Rebecca Lappa’s latest album, Reckless Heart, officially released through iTunes on Nov. 2, the wise-beyond-her-years singer/songwriter bravely dives into the complicated sea of emotions that define modern romance. She emerges with a collection sure to add her name to the roll call of Canada’s brightest new voices.

Armed with powerful songs such as the brooding “Breathe In The Storm,” the uplifting first single “Carnival Of Love,” and the hard-rocking “Crockpot Girl,” Rebecca teamed up with JUNO-winning producer Russell Broom (Jann Arden, Chantal Kreviazuk), who helped guide her toward a new musical vision for Reckless Heart.

“Russell was very open about asking me how I thought things should sound and be arranged, which was something new for me,” Rebecca says. “I came to him with about 50 songs and together we examined the strengths and weaknesses of each one until we decided the ones to focus on for the album. I learned so much going through that process with him, and it’s completely changed how I view my work.”

 ABOUT REBECCA LAPPA

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Rebecca Lappa’s journey in music began at a young age with classical vocal training. She is a five-time Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee, winning once in 2015 for her album Tattered Rose. She has also performed at many major events in Canada, including the Edmonton Folk Festival, Canmore Folk Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival and Ottawa Bluesfest. She has a particularly special relationship with the Calgary Folk Festival where she is a two-time winner of its songwriting competition.

Rebecca released her first album in 2011 while still in Grade 8, and went on to compose three one-woman musicals over the next several years. As well, she has contributed songs to other live theatre productions, which have been performed at the Edmonton Fringe Festival and elsewhere. Rebecca’s primary interest during this time was traditional folk music and mythology, which complemented her formal musical education.

While she felt comfortable as a folk artist—one project she is particularly proud of is her album based on poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson, which was named Adult Alternative Recording of the Year at the Edmonton Music Awards—since releasing Tattered Rose, Rebecca has felt the urge to break away from these influences and establish a new musical identity. Part of that has also included forming a new trio, Rebecca and The Revelry, which will be hitting the road in support of Reckless Heart.

Canadian Songstress Ann Vriend Releases The Next Australian Single From Her Acclaimed Long Player For The People In The Meantime

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW SINGLE YOU CAN HAVE ME RELEASED TO RADIO ON FRIDAY 15TH  MAY 2015

Ann Vriend You Can Have Me

Copyright © 2014 Leroy Schulz http://www.leroyschulz.com/2014

Canadian songstress Ann Vriend is following up the success of her recent pop/soul long player For The People In The Mean Time with a catchy soul/funk single You Can Have Me, chosen specifically for release in Australia this May. After a successful tour down under at the start of 2015, it was quickly evident that Ann’s rapidly growing fanbase missed the pint-sized singer- songwriter, so she hand-picked one of her favourite tracks from the album to share with music lovers.

The Vancouver born singer hit her musical strides early when her parents discovered her picking out songs by ear on a toy xylophone at age three. She was enrolled in violin lessons by age four, and by the age of nine she was a composing songs on piano. Inspired to continue a career in the music industry, she entered school talent quests, enrolled in music college and won first place in a songwriting competition, which funded her debut album.

Ann’s sound has been described as an enchanting cross between the ‘girly timbre of Dolly Parton and the blues-filled prowess of Aretha Franklin’. In 2013 she won Canada’s nation-wide ‘She’s The One’ talent search at the Ottawa Bluesfest, and her live show with her band received 4/5 stars in Die Rhineplatz, Germany this past April. Meanwhile Ann’s songs have garnered airplay on both commercial and independent stations alike. Her latest album, For The People In The Mean Time, an energetic retro soul offering received 4/5 stars in Beat Magazine and is currently up for Pop Recording of the Year and Female Artist of the Year in her hometown of Edmonton. It was also nominated at the Toronto Independent Music Awards for Pop Album of the Year.

Track three from the album, the single You Can Have Me is a playful anti-romantic, or a realistic relationship song, says Ann. “I wrote it to be in contrast with the idealistic pop love songs out there,” she says. “But it’s still really upbeat and has a funky dance vibe rather than a sobering one. In fact, the whole album is about realistic expectations in my rough neighbourhood – sad if you read the lyrics, but the music is quite the opposite. It’s an old-school disco party, a really good time, heavy bad-ass beats, groovy basslines – the kind of thing to play on a Saturday night. I think inadvertently my philosophy of soul music came through, which is that people need to dance and sing and let loose – not because they are problem free and without any blues, but in spite of that, as a way of managing.”

Like many of Ann’s lyrical influences – Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Dylan – You Can Have Me is both tongue-in-cheek and simultaneously serious in nature: “It is about accepting and/or settling for someone to be with, in contrast to all the pop songs out there about ‘you’re so perfect and so beautiful and sexy 100 per cent of the time’,” she says. “I came up with a couple of characters who, like most people, want a person who fulfills all the things on their Ideal Person List– but instead they are advised maybe they should consider lowering their expectations of meeting all the points on their List– at least within the span of their lifetime– if they want to actually have a relationship with anyone! It may be on the one hand a bit of a cynical thing but I meant it to be more of a ‘hey, nobody’s perfect’, let’s celebrate people for who they really are kind of song.  I mean, none of us are perfect!”

The album For The People In The Mean Time is firmly rooted in R&B, with nearly all its samples and influences coming from funk artists such as Sly Stone and Parliament, Motown artists such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, and soul artists like Ray Charles and Ann’s all-time favorite singer, Aretha Franklin. The background vocals throughout are arranged in 3-part harmonies taken straight from the pages of the Rayelettes and Aretha, with You Can Have Me being no exception.

The original of You Can Have Me was recorded in Ann’s attic in Edmonton on Garageband as a rough demo, and sent to the album’s producer, Tino Zolfo, in Toronto. The demo had only the bare bones of the track: just piano, lead and background vocals, and a Motown type of chord progression. But Tino decided to put a different groove underneath. “Once he was done with it only the pre- chorus and bridge has any chord progression; he made it all about drums and bass,” says Ann. “After that we re-did the vocal and background vocals in Toronto, but in the end Tino liked how my original vocals sounded better, over the original chord progression he had then removed, because they imply this old-school harmony that’s no longer there. So it’s kind of a crazy thing but we kept those original vocals I did on a Sure 58 mic in my attic. I had no intention of that every being a keeper; I didn’t use a proper recording mic at all, but I am excited by how it sounds- it’s got a quirky old-school gritty undertone to it, while still being dance-like and poppy. That’s what Tino was after and I thought it suited the lyrics, and my neighbourhood, and me, perfectly.”

After releasing “You Can Have Me in Australia Ann hopes to return back down under in September 2015. Almost an ‘honorary Australian’, Ann has spent a considerable time touring the country, and considers it her “home away from home.” So when it came to releasing a new single from her album, Australia was one of the first places she decided to share the song.

Ann Vriend’s single You Can Have Me is released to radio on Friday 15th May 2015.

New Ann Vriend Album Available For Download

From Ann Vriend’s Latest Newsletter:

IT’S HERE!!

Folks, I am very happy to announce that my new album, “Love & Other Messes”, is now available for download via the link below. You can download the whole album and front cover artwork, or individual tracks.

I produced the album myself, co-produced with engineer Alan Wall and my bassist James Forrest. I have to say it’s the one I am most proud of to date, and I’m dying to know what you think of it!

Now, before you do anything reckless like download the songs immediately, read this little insider fan tidbit of info, because it might affect your decision:

1) the physical album will be available in a matter of days or even hours to order online, and it contains a 28 page lyric booklet which has blurbs about the songs and a lot of photos, as well as the lyrics and musician credits, and the whole package is made from 100% recycled material. So, you may want to wait to get the real deal vs the digital deal for only a few more bucks than downloading all the tracks. There will be a Paypal button posted on my website shortly, and on it will be an option to get it signed and/or a personalized message written on it by yours truly. Makes an excellent Christmas present if I don’t say so myself! (bias accusations accepted).

2) the album is going to be pressed on vinyl in a month or 2, and the vinyl album will come with a download card for the songs. It will cost about $25 – $35 because it costs a lot to manufacture them, but in case this is an option you prefer you might want to hold off til then. HOWEVER: the record on vinyl will ONLY BE AVAILABLE AT LIVE SHOWS so be aware of that!

So, you see, it pays to be on the AV Mailing List :).

By the way, my stance on downloading versus album sales is that while I don’t want to give away my music for free I think hey, this is the new medium, people want to have songs digitally, CD cases take up storage room, and as long as in general I can keep on making a living from music I am happy– which is the case so far, thanks to YOU. I feel very supported by the fans of my music so I’d rather have you download my music and pass on the word about it then never get around to listening to it because it’s too expensive/cumbersome to get the actual CD. My hope is that you’ll like the songs so much you’ll either come to a show, bring your friends, pass the music on to other people who will then become fans, host a house concert, or something else that puts $ into my pocket one way or another down the road. I do make some income from digital downloads so this little paragraph is to clear your consciences about downloading my music. Download away, and thanks so much for your ongoing support 🙂

REMAINING GERMAN TOUR DATES

I have one week of shows remaining in Deutschland. So far I’m having a blast! The concerts have been going really well and I am learning a (mostly unrelated) mix of German words, visiting castles and cathedrals, loving the lack of speed limits on the Autobahn, and slowly figuring out the Deutsche Bahn train schedules (still working on that one). Biegen sie links ab! Rot wein! Genau!

Here’s a list of my remaining tour dates in Germany. Full details for the shows are posted via the link below.

Danke to everyone in Germany who has made this tour so fun so far!

BLUEBIRD NORTH EDMONTON: SEASON II, SHOW 2

It’s on Sunday, November 28. Which, I just discovered today, is the same day that the Grey Cup will be held in… Edmonton. Argh! If only I was on top of Canadian football news I would have known this. But alas, I regret to say that I am obviously not on top of that, and my excuse is that I’ve been out of the country for a few weeks, and out of the province since the end of Sept. (But I did vote in advance for the municipal election, does that count for anything?)

Anyway, it occurred to me that not all Edmontonians are football fans, and so I have decided the unofficial title of this next Bluebird North Event will be: The Alternative Show to Men Jumping On Top Of Each Other For Fun And/Or Money”. (Or TASTMJOTOEOFFAOM, which admittedly is not the best acronym there ever was.)

It will be my first week back in Edmonton after a long hiatus, so, my fellow Edmontonians, do come by and say hello, and enjoy a show– in which I will be very surprised if anyone, male or female, jumps on top of each other. But it still will be entertaining– I’m excited about the line up and the shows are getting rave reviews from attendees!

I am the host and producer of the show, and will play a song at the beginning of each set, but in general it features 4 other songwriters from across Canada who will play 2 sets in the songwriters-in-the-round style. This show’s 4 featured songwriters are:

Karyn Ellis, Brian McCleod, Kim Wempe, and Dave Newberry.

Coming up in 2011:

Full 7 piece band tour to release the album across Alberta at the end of January

Agent Many Trees) told me he was going to need to get himself and his car from Vancouver to Toronto this winter, and I got this idea that it would be great to use that opportunity to do some house concerts with him along the way, at least for the prairies portion of his trip.

So, I came up with the name “Little House Concert on the Prairies Tour”, which I was quite proud of.

However, the tour has expanded in both western and eastern directions to include places that simply are not on the prairies. So, the name is not really that accurate anymore. (But humor me, isn’t that still a great name? My parents read me the Laura Ingalls Wilder books when I was a kid. Nostalgia.)

The weather, on the other hand…. let’s just say I came up with this idea when it was unusually balmy (for Edmonton) in November, and the roads were dry. This was also before my own car broke down on the side of the highway last month in – 28 degree weather on the way to a very high paying gig.

It all turned out ok: we were rescued by a person who happened to have a (broken) life support system in his Ford Escort (see my up-side-down video on FB for more details), so, to quote Ma from Little House on the Prairies: “All’s well that ends well” (the life support system was not needed, anyway, by the way).

This time we will not have a life support system on board, but, due to Agent MT’s change of plans, we are going to RENT a car rather than take his OR my “can’t believe it still runs at all” ’96 station wagon, which has caused me enough grief lately! (See recent FB posts).

So have no fear, we shall arrive in prime form across this frozen land, to many a destination, almost all of which are house concerts, and a few of which are on the prairies.

Hope to see you all soon!

Tennessee Waltz

Before I head home Coco, myself, and probably some other Canucks will head from Toronto to Nashville and Memphis to do some showcasing. (What are we showcasing? In theory, some musical talent, but who knows. I expect to be quite under-slept for over a month at this point so anything is possible.)

Anyway, I absolutely can’t wait to see some of the people I met last year in Nashville, and also to attend the Folk Alliance Music Conference in Memphis. I had so much fun last yr at that conference, jammed every nite on the balcony, wrote a song with Agent Beard and others, spent an awful lot of time in the hot tub, and that is also where the idea for the Double Agent Tours began! (Not in the hot tub, but at the conference in general).

Who knows what will happen this time! If Shai is coming can someone please tell him to bring his melodica again!?

Ah, shucks, all this anticipation will mean we’ll probably just end up having quiet conversations about taxes and go to bed early every night. Anyways, here’s the deets:

Warming Up Down Under

After Tennessee I return home to Edmonton for a few days to host Bluebird North and pack my suitcase full of SUMMER clothes. Then I will get on a very long flight and 2 days later arrive in Australia, where I will be touring non stop for 2 months.

Aussies, the VERY WHITE person arriving March will be me. This skin has not seen vitamin D for a VERY LONG TIME. In fact, due to the fact that I’ve been wearing longjohns all month it’s safe to say I have a negative amount of tan, if there is such a thing.

On a more important note: to get a keyboard from one show to the next I will be needing to rent– or as they say in Aus, “hire”– a car, which is going to be expensive– so in case anyone knows someone who could let me rent/hire one in Melbourne, Tassie, Sydney, or Brisbane at a discount rate let me know (I am very good at driving on the right– and by right I mean left– side of the road by now).

Here’s the Aus itinerary:

NEWS FROM ANN VRIEND

Second Hand New Year’s: AV, Amber Bissonnette, and James Murdoch Band Play Rumours Album

Tickets are nearly gone folks– can only get them at the Haven Social Club and at Ticketmaster (direct event link below). So, do not delay!

Here’s the info about the gig:

This New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31, the James Murdoch Band will be teaming up with Ann Vriend and Amber Bissonnette to perform, in full, the iconic album, “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac. James will be singing Lindsay Buckingham’s parts, Ann will sing Christine McVie’s parts and play keys, and Amber will sing Stevie Nick’s parts. Add to that the killer instrumentation of the full James Murdoch band: Nathan Carroll on guitar, Scott Gallant (also of the Faunts) on bass, Chris Budnarchuk on drums, and David Aide on organ and additional keys — and you have a pretty awesome line-up of professional well-known Edmonton performers! This idea originated with James Murdoch, who says: “This is not a cheesy tribute band type thing, we simply all love these incredible songs and want to play them. All of them!” In addition to the Rumours album the above line up will also play other covers of the 70s era to complete a full evening of great music. Tickets are $25 advance and $30 at the door, which includes hors d’oeuvres served throughout the evening and a glass of champagne for each guest.

Vancouver – Ottawa Tour (expanded “Little House Concert on the Prairies” Tour)

This all began with some people in Stony Plain inviting me to perform a house concert out at their log cabin in Stony Plain at the end of January (can’t wait!). Other house concerts in the area got added, and then my bass player (a.k.a. Agent Many Trees) told me he was going to need to get himself and his car from Vancouver to Toronto, and I got this idea that it would be great to use that opportunity to do some house concerts with him along the way, at least for the prairies portion of his trip.

So, I came up with the name “Little House Concert on the Prairies Tour”, which I was quite proud of.

However, the tour has expanded in both western and eastern directions to include places that simply are not on the prairies. So, the name is not really that accurate anymore.

But humor me, isn’t that still a great name? My parents read me the Laura Ingalls Wilder books when I was a kid, nostalgia, you know?

The weather, on the other hand…. let’s just say I came up with this idea BEFORE the very cold weather hit here in Edmonton, and before my own car broke down on the side of the highway a couple of weeks ago in – 28 degree weather (which led to some bizarre albeit happy rescue adventures), but which initially brought on a brief moment of panic, as neither myself nor Agent Many Trees were very prepared to sit in a cold car on the side of the highway all nite…. (not to mention we were supposed to be at a show in an hour).

Anyway, here are the “Expanded Little House Concert on the Prairies Tour Dates”. I am really looking forward to this! Please note: Agent Many Trees’ car is much more reliable than the very old AV tour mobile, so I do think we will arrive sans need for rescue– though you never know, I do seem to attract unwanted adventures…

Places we are still looking for shows (in case you feel like being a house concert host!):

Calgary area– Jan 23 Kingston or Perth– Feb 12 Toronto– Feb 9, 12, 13, or 14 Guelph– Feb 9, 12, 13, or 14 Hamilton– Feb 9, 12, 13, or 14
