Be The Master Of Your Own Domain On Facebook!

Qadesh, the Siberian tiger shows me who is master of her domain!

Probably the most overwhelming thing to deal with when learning about social media marketing, is the sheer volume of how-to information out there that you have to wade through, in order to find what you’re looking for.  There are thousands and thousands of so-called experts in the field but how will you really know who the masters of their own domains are on Facebook?  Who are the social media tigers?  You’ll find out when you pay attention to the content they’re sharing as well as how big their audience and their value really is.

I have been paying attention for the past year to what some of the masters are teaching others and these are some whose opinions I trust:

I can never seem to find as much time as I’d like to attend all these experts’ webinars or watch their hundreds of videos, but they are out there to offer you all kinds of valuable information for free and even more for a fee.  They are all very successful entrepreneurs.

These are some of the tips I picked up at the Facebook Mastery Summit earlier this year:

  • Link your personal profile to your Facebook Page
  • Create a custom graphically designed profile picture (180 x 540 pixels) – or have someone skilled do it for you!
  • Use pictures to entice fans with what you offer
  • Use videos to entice fans with what you offer
  • Create a customized opt-in tab for your landing page (this requires the knowledge of iFrame language so if you don’t know how to do it, hire a professional) and offer something valuable to those who LIKE your page, whether it’s a free PDF, video, tips, coupons or simply a terrific graphic representation of your product or service
  • Choose your Facebook page name wisely – make it easy to remember and easy to think of as it will improve your Facebook SEO (search engine optimization)
  • After 25 people have LIKED your page, secure your username or vanity URL by going to www.facebook.com/username
  • Put your keyword(s) in your Info tab
  • Social proof is important so more fans give you more credibility and more effective Facebook ads (although I personally think it’s more important to have a quality audience over quantity!)
  • Identify 3-5 groups where your customers and centers of influence (COI’s) hang out.  Join them and interact in them regularly.
  • Add members of those groups to your personal profile (a maximum of 10 friend requests per day) by sending them a friend request with a direct message and a question
  • Suggest your page to your personal friends (50 per day max)
  • Engage in social networking AS YOUR PAGE and like and comment on other people’s pages, adding value to the conversations
  • Build your eTRIBE by showing the pages you like on your page
  • Facebook Ads are extremely profitable if you know what you’re doing.  Keep them social and ask questions!
  • Create viral actions by uploading photos and tagging others or writing notes and tagging others
  • Above all, create and post engaging content that offers the highest value you can provide
  • High value content is timely, exclusive only on Facebook, asks questions, weighs in on controversial topics, shares high buzz relevant content, incentives, coupons, promos, contests
  • Share your successes (i.e. “Just passed 1,000 fans!  Woohoo!”)
  • Reply to comments quickly
  • Link your Facebook page to Twitter (www.facebook.com/twitter)
  • Viral video marketing!  Upload your videos to Facebook and then tag others
  • Use applications (for landing page promos or coupons – www.NorthSocial.com) or anything that’s relevant to your business
  • Host contests (but be sure to read Facebook’s Promotions Guidelines: www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php)
  • Ask for a Review from your customers and clients as it creates an automatic viral testimonial (there is a Review application that you can add to your page)
  • Incorporate seamless marketing which includes your Facebook page URL in your email signature, website/blog (LIKE Box – http://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/), front desk, business cards, brochures & marketing materials
  • Coordinated sharing – which means you can arrange to LIKE people’s pages if they like yours and share them with others
  • Create exclusive Facebook Events (but be sure to geo-target them so that they go out to the people in the region(s) that they’re meant for!)

These are just some of the ideas that you can incorporate to create a successful and enticing Facebook page that will firmly declare you to be the master of your own domain.  However, you must never forget that ENGAGEMENT is everything!  If you’re not already a household name or brand, you won’t maintain your audience without it.

Twiends – Just Another Social Media Gimmick!

Twiends.com is a tool to help you build your followers on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. You can set up an account with them for free and will earn 50 free seeds right away but this will only apply to your primary account. If you try to set up an account for another user on your computer, the program reads your IP address and you’re able to set up the account, but you will not receive any benefit for having done so.

Seeds are used as currency to sell to people for following you. Twiends wants you to purchase packages of seeds from them for prices that vary from 75 seeds daily for $9.95/wk up to 20,000 seeds for $279.95. You can set your rate for how many seeds you offer people, but offering them 2 seeds is the minimum limit.

Twiends asks you to fill in your profile and add your social media profile URLs that you want to draw attention to and then you have to fill in 5 keywords that will assist the program in finding followers for you who have common interests.

I’m a small business owner with no budget but I’ve been using Twiends free service for a couple of weeks now and the service does work. I was able to increase my Twitter followers and members on my Facebook fan page by a wee bit and I’m grateful for that. However, the free portion of it isn’t terribly useful unless you’re prepared to spend hours earning seeds by following other Twitter users, liking Facebook pages, and watching YouTube videos and then sift through the detritus of people that you really aren’t interested in following anyway. Of all the people who use my seeds to follow me on Twitter, a very, very low percentage have stayed with me and an even lower percentage were actually people who I am interested in following. I will not follow anyone who doesn’t have an interesting bio to accompany their Twitter profile.

Twiends offers you free seeds periodically via email and today I was offered 250 seeds for writing a review about the program on Review Centre.com. It took two hours for the 250 seeds to be used up by people who either started following me on Twitter or liked one of the Facebook pages that I administer. I got email notifications that 59 people started following me on Twitter, but after 2 hours, I only had 40 extra followers. I gained 9 members on my Facebook page but I’m certain they won’t all stay with it.

You will lose followers on Twitter and fans on Facebook just as fast as you gain them because they’re not really screening you based on their interests (they just want to earn seeds for their own accounts) and I suspect for the most part you waste your time and your seeds. Some people have liked my Facebook page and then unliked it within a few minutes later and my seeds have been wasted. But then again, some people have actually stayed with the page for at least a week. It’s up to us to give them content that they’re interested in, after all.

This past week I also tried the free trial offered by Social Oomph which is a tool to help you to boost your productivity on Twitter by allowing you to schedule your Tweets ahead of time, and send auto-welcome DMs as well as auto-follow for $3.97 per month which is pretty cheap if you have a budget. I was able to find out who is actually following me on Twitter and I sent a large percentage (by hand, not using a DM auto-responder as that wasn’t part of the free deal) of my artist followers a request in a direct message to join me on my Facebook page in order to get to know me better. I had a pretty good response to that but some people were still suspicious and I was accused of spamming by one person. That wasn’t my intention. I am offering all artists the opportunity to post about their work on my page because I believe in the power of cross promotion and of actually trying to help others through networking. I enjoy sharing information about artists that I like and I also provide links to some great social media tips by experts in the field. I have gained a few more members for my page but it will remain to be seen whether or not they stay with it and actually participate.

I investigated these free trials to satisfy my own curiosity about them in order to find out if they actually work. Yes they do. But they’re not really free. Between Twiends and Social Oomph, I would recommend Social Oomph, for its capabilities, but to upgrade to a Professional account, you have to pay $29.97/month. I think that would be a better way to spend your money than to waste it on buying packages of seeds on Twiends which for all intents and purposes is basically just another social media gimmick from people who want your hard-earned cash and your ROI with this program just isn’t worth it.

Scully Love Promo’s Facebook Page Is For All Artists!

Hello everyone!

My Scully Love Promo Facebook page offers some great tips on social media as well as information about very talented musicians, authors, photographers, and other artists. In fact, all artists are invited to LIKE the page and are welcome to post links and information about their own work.

Today the Scully Love Promo page has 1,182 members and I would love to see it reach 1,200 by the end of the week. I believe in the power of networking and helping each other to spread the love about our work. There is enough room for everyone to be successful and none of us can do it alone. Especially in light of the changes made to Facebook pages and the fact that if we are not an administrator of a page, we can only share it by either posting a link on our wall or by sending a link via email to our personal friends – unless we want to pay for a Facebook ad. So we need each other more than ever! Cross promotion can be very effective and as you know, it takes a village! I encourage all page owners to LIKE other pages as their page (i.e., refer to the Manage tab in the Admin Panel at the top of your page that says Use Facebook as…in my case, Scully Love Promo) which will feature them in the LIKES box on the right side of the Timeline-style page and help to cross promote those artists or businesses that you would recommend.

The Scully Love Promo Facebook page is just one way in which I promote the talented people that I get to know. I write entertainment reviews and interviews which you are familiar with if you read this blog, for Press +1, Canada’s largest online indie entertainment magazine (it has a readership of 3 million!) and Jill Crossland’s TimeFinders – Women Writing For Women. I also write books reviews for HarperCollins Canada and Simon & Schuster and post them on Amazon, and post press releases for local theatre and music events.

Last but not least, is my Scully Love Promo social media management business. I specialize in assisting musicians and authors with their social media marketing campaigns using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, MySpace and WordPress among other top sites, and have created dozens of Facebook pages for artists as well as local businesses. I am one of three administrators of the official Facebook page for Bob Geldof, the Irish musician (former leader of The Boomtown Rats), successful entrepreneur, Band AID and Live AID founder and humanitarian who was knighted by the Queen of England for his tireless fundraising & awareness efforts on behalf of Africa.

I would be honoured to help spread the love about you!

Let Jo Barnes Tell You How To Explode Your Facebook Page!

A couple of weeks ago a friend and client of mine sent me the link to millionaire Internet marketer Chris Farrell’s FREE GIFT!!! How To Explode Your Facebook Fans and List. Believe it or not, the value of this absolutely FREE GIFT has been absolutely amazing! Anyone who wishes to learn some valuable secrets about how to explode your Facebook page will definitely learn something from Jo Barnes.

Jo offers a FREE 6 part video series if you join her newsletter. Her Ultimate Business Startup Blog is at http://jobarnesonline.com/. Jo is full of excellent advice and she knows what she’s talking about! Her prices for her courses are really reasonable. She’s a very dynamic, intelligent and honest person who is available to you to answer questions. She’s hands-down the most generous Facebook marketer I’ve ever come across. She’s also doing very, very well for just having started marketing with Facebook in August of 2010. She’s a real go-getter and a great video blogger!

I have been listening to her videos and reading her posts on her Free Fan Page Templates page on Facebook. I’m been working in social media marketing for almost 3 years and I knew a lot of what Jo suggested but not everything! She has taught me some great new tips that are very useful. I’m going to take her special course 2000 Fans in 27 Days just as soon as I can put a payment on my credit card.

These are the top 8 tips Jo suggests for exploding your fan page:

1. Increase your friends. (We have to start by increasing our own personal networks. I am going to be doing this whenever I can and I’m not working for my clients. I’m only at 938 friends on Facebook but that’s because I actually try to get to know each person at least a little so that I know what they’re into.) Write a friendly email request telling the person about you and asking if they’d like to connect with you on Facebook.

2. Groups – read their policy first and post on those that allow you to post content that adds value.

3. Create your own group(s) (but don’t just spam people with loads of affiliate links). (I personally am not going to do this because I don’t have time for groups and all the pages I already participate on – which is also a great way of letting strangers get to know you better and inevitably some of them end up putting in a friend request if they like you.)

4. Add a Like Box to your website or blog.

5. YouTube videos (the kind we actually make and not just links to those that are already there. I don’t have the capacity to make videos at home or I would start doing it. I will eventually.)

6. Events (Create events for the launch of a page or product; host a Q&A, Virtual Tea, webinar, etc. Target the creators of events and those who actually spend money on attending the events as people you would want in your own network because they are serious about networking.) Use Events as a search tool using keywords and pick those that have lots of confirmed guests.

7. You can use apps like Marketplace or Fiverr to place ads and or pay $5 to have people invite their networks to your page. (You can also buy an ad on Facebook which is what they really want you to do!)

8. Twitter. (Create a Twitter account and link your Facebook page to it. I will be posting a blog with some great Twitter tips very soon.)

You can also target your friends using an application called AdvancedSearch 2.2 Beta which you can add to your fan page and use to do a more specific search using keywords than the regular Search feature on Facebook.

The key when building our own networks is to look for people who are active and with whom we have things in common. The administrators of groups and fan pages are potential business partners because they are active.

These are just a few of the great tips I’ve learned from Jo Barnes. If you are serious about exploding your Facebook page, I would highly recommend connecting with Jo (and me) because she will absolutely be able to help you do just that!

Love you Jo!!

My vision for Scully Love Promo is to spread the love about talented, creative people (mainly authors & musicians because I love books & music) who contribute to the world through the beauty of their work. My integrity and the integrity of my clients’ work is of utmost importance and I want to help them to realize their goals and dreams as a way of giving back a little in thanks. I’ve always heard that if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life and I truly love working with social media to help my exceptional clients share their gifts.

The focus of Scully Love Promo began almost 3 years ago with the promotion of first class authors & musicians. I use the Internet to increase my clients’ publicity, focus on their talents & recent releases, and to expand their fan base using major social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

I create and maintain social media profiles on the leading social networking sites as well as teach people about social media etiquette and how to manage their social media marketing campaign. I also work for them as their Social Media Manager.

I know the lingo, I know the etiquette, and I know that traditional advertising methods such as the Yellow Pages, newspapers and magazines are all but dead. The publishing industry has undergone a massive shift and downsizing since the dawning of the Facebook era. Now is the time for you and your business to get on board with the 21st century’s most powerful advertising techniquesocial media – and to let a professional Social Media Manager take care of your business while you do your job and reap all of the possible benefits that are coming to you!

I’m not just a blogger! I provide social media support on a monthly basis if required and offer consulting services through which I teach you how to use Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube and LinkedIn effectively for a one-time fee. I’ve created dozens of Facebook fan pages for authors, musicians, and local businesses, and have taught their owners how to manage them and how to make them successful (whether they listened to me or implemented my suggestions is another matter).

In fact, I am a great personal assistant too! Among other things, I assist my clients with:

• Processing SOCAN Notice of Life Music Performance submissions
• Website updates, web design, professional MySpace profiles & Facebook banners
• Editing and proofreading manuscripts & publishing on demand
• Poster & CD mailouts
• Creation and maintenance of mailing lists/newsletters
• Blogging
• Local book signings
• Research regarding book/writing competitions
• Arranging interviews on authors’ and book reviewers’ blogs
• Securing of ISBN & CIP numbers

These are some of the wonderful people whom I have had the privilege of working with:

It is my hope that you will keep me in mind if and when things take off and you find you’re too busy to see to online promo yourself. Please recommend me to your colleagues and friends and don’t forget to invite your friends to check out the artists’ pages that you like on Facebook!

May we all be so fortunate as to love what we do!
