Vancouver’s Santa Lucia Premiere New Latin Funk Rock Video for “Russellfunk” from Suppressed Anthems

Santa Lucia LFR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 8, 2016

[Vancouver, BC] Santa Lucia LFR (LFR stands for Latin Funk Rock) may well be Canada’s best kept secret. Like a multi-ethnic gathering of friends, this seven-member, Vancouver-based band has created a sound that evokes the early days of Latin Rock (Santana, War, etc.) while adding their own blend of Funk grooves. Lead by Nicaraguan frontman German Cantillo on vocals and guitar, the band has an addictive combination of Nuyorican Boogaloo, West Coast Funk and ever present Cuban grooves engulfing the stage with monstrous horns and bass, and funky breaks with furious lyrics in English and Spanish.

Santa Lucia LFR have just released a new video for their song “Russellfunk” from their third, full-length 2011 album, Supressed Anthems, which offers a blend of horn-driven music anthems with a social conscience, unique Latin sensibilities with plenty of rock, a shot of salsa, a shed-load of funk, and some high-speed Nicaraguan cumbia, and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can light up any room, even without words. This instrumental jam-fest highlights the musical sparks that ignite and then blaze with layer upon layer of radiant, brilliant musicianship & soul-inspiring skill.  Playful in its nature, but serious in precision, “Russellfunk” puts the rhythmic heart of Santa Lucia LFR out there directly on the dance-floor to party with the people! Watch it on YouTube now.

With a new single on the horizon, Santa Lucia LFR’s line-up of stellar musicians currently includes: Byron Russell on alto sax, Kevin Tang on trombone, Luis Garzon on bass, Jeremy Vint on trumpet, Luis Aulestia on Latin percussion, and Stefan Grabowski on drums. Although they may be misunderstood visionaries, their common cause is to bring attention to a dynamic sound that has never really been on the musical radar of this country. Their objective is simple: Santa Lucia LFR wants you to dance. Just how they go about getting your body moving is a little more complex, but these guys from a mix of backgrounds have found a way to present new and original Latin and funk compositions that both the masses and purists alike can enjoy.

As a result of their great appeal and the versatility of their music, Santa Lucia LFR are welcomed in nearly every kind of festival, including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival, Salmon Arm Blues & Roots Festival, Victoria Ska Fest, Folk on the Rocks Festival in Yellowknife, to the Taste of Fernie and Okanagan Winery series at Tinhorn Creek. They have also performed corporate shows for the Diabetes Society of Victoria, CBC French Alliance Society and fundraisers for Canadian Veterans at Billy Bishop Legion, as well as the Jazz Cellar Club in Vancouver to rock clubs in Western Canada and the US, opening for international touring acts such as Ozomatli, Yerba Buena, Los Mococos, The Skatalites, Maxi Priest, The Cat Empire, Los Lobos, Polyrythmics and Israel’s Hadag Nahash at the annual Jewish Chutzpah! Festival.German Cantillo of Santa Lucia LFR

British Columbia music fans can catch Santa Lucia LFR on April 30, 2016 at The Royal Canadian Legion Crescent Branch 240 in White Rock, on May 13 at the River City Pub in Revelstoke, and on May 14 at the Salty Street Fest in Salmon Arm. Jazz-Latin/Pop Singer-Songwriter Deborah Ledon Releases the Timeless and Elegant ‘Diving For Pearls’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 17, 2014

Jazz-Latin/Pop Singer-Songwriter Deborah Ledon Releases the Timeless and Elegant ‘Diving For Pearls

Jazz-Latin/Pop Singer-Songwriter Deborah Ledon

“The Vancouver-based singer-songwriter is as extraordinary as her life story.”

AllAboutJazz.com

“You must only use your powers for good!”
Phillip Ditchburn, Producer, CBC Hot Air

[Vancouver, BC]  If Diana Krall, Sade and Gloria Estefan had a “thing”, Deborah Ledon would certainly be the lovechild of their ménage a trois!

A little bit jazz, a sprinkling of pop sensibility, with a touch of smooth and fiery passion to top it off; Ledon has chosen to follow her heart when it comes to music.

Over her career, she has performed throughout Canada and the United States, as her adaptable voice has garnered opportunities in rock, funk, country, blues, Big Band and jazz bands.

She has shared the stage with music legends Paul Anka and Mike Reno of Loverboy; was the grand finale at the 2010 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival; represented Canada at the Cultural Olympiad during the 2010 Winter Olympics, and performed at CBC Radio 1 for a nation-wide broadcast.

Now, 10 years after the release of her award winning debut, Spilling Inside Out, which she wrote, produced, financed and distributed, Ledon is back revealing another facet of herself with the timeless and elegant, Diving For Pearls.

Taking much loved classics (standouts include Joni Mitchell’s “Help Me” and Eden Ahbez’ “Nature Boy”) and giving them a modern approach, Deborah and her accomplished band will project images of dancing by firelight with someone you love running through your mind. Diving For Pearl’s Spanish and English songs not only touch a nerve but will have you “visualizing” jazz.  Ledon’s voice touches one deeply hinting of past obstacles, now overcome. Her vulnerability is palpable; her original tracks are melodic and with her phrasing and unique Spanish accent, delightful. And she purposefully misspelled “Te Estraño” to highlight the misstep of Love. Strung together like a priceless strand of pearls, these songs are Deborah’s conversation with you, the listener.

The album design/packaging is eye-catching with its subtle reveal of the Deborah Ledon Diving For Pearlsartist with each panel opened, allowing us to dive deeper into the singer until we reach that brilliant crimson inside Ledon’s soul.

Deborah Ledon has earned Vancouver’s “Best Of The City: 2013” for her entertaining and engaging show. Her radiant smile and sassy, sultry, confident stage persona make her one artist you won’t want to overlook.

Live Wire Music Series Presents Latin Grammy Winner Alex Cuba at The Octave Theatre on Mar. 29, 2014

Alex CubaLive Wire Music Series Kingston is wrapping up this year’s season with a concert at The Octave Theatre on Saturday, March 29 featuring the spectacular Cuban-Canadian guitarist and singer Alex Cuba and his new band. Alex sings in both Spanish and English and has won two Juno Awards for World Music Album of the Year in 2006 for Humo De Tabaco, and in 2008 for his second album, Agua Del Pozo. In 2010 he won the Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist. On his newest album Ruido En El Sistema he continues his exploration of rock, soul, pop and Latin funk, and solidifies his stature as one of North America’s most critically acclaimed musicians.

Alex’s first stage appearance on national TV was age of four, playing claves in a group directed by his father. Alex went on to study guitar, tres, percussion and bass. He was born in Artemisa, Cuba (1 hour west of Havana) and now lives in Smithers, B.C. (14 hours north of Vancouver). Musically, he lives everywhere in between. His trademark sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and rock chords subtly subvert commonly held notions of what Cuban music is. With his vintage Gibson electric guitar and forgoing conventional stereotypes that typify much of the Latin music landscape, Alex is defining his own “Latin Soul” genre and crafting brilliant songs that cut through linguistic and cultural barriers.
